The reason Christ can take care of the sin problem is that He has satisfied God, by His sacrifice on the cross, for the punishment of our sins. “Jesus is the propitiation for our sins. He has done whatever is necessary to maintain the honor of God’s law, God’s justice and truth, making it consistent for a holy God to offer pardon and forgiveness … if the believer sins after redemption, God can still be just and forgive the sins of the believer for Christ’s sake, on the merit of His finished work” (Greene).
